Inuyama castle is a National treasure. There are only four such castles
in Japan. The best scenic view of Inuyama castle is from Narita-san(temple),
which can be reached by Mone-rail from Inuyama-yuen station. To get to
Inuyama castle I walked 10 minutes west from Inuyama-yuen station, up a
small hill. We have to change out of our shoes, into slippers, at the gate
of the castle. I went up the steep stairs, being careful to watch out for the crossbars
that are set at head height at regular intervals. I think these were built
as defences against an attaching force trying to the castle. There is a
nice view of Ikiyama and Unuma castle from the observation deck. Gihu prefecture
is on the other side of Kiso-river, which is adjocent to Inuyama castle.
Ikiyama castle sits a top a triangle shaped mountain and is best viewed
from Inuyama castle's observation deck.
